How does the Sony A7R IV integrate into Long-Term Time-lapse Photography?

To integrate the Sony A7R IV into long-term time-lapse photography, consider the following:

The Sony A7R IV has a built-in intervalometer, allowing you to set the camera to capture images at regular intervals. You can access this feature through the camera's menu. This can be handy for short-term time-lapse. For long-term time-lapse projects, connect the A7R IV to the photoSentinel Tempo.

Power Supply

The camera's battery will capture approximately 670 shots.
For long-term time-lapse projects, the photoSentinel Tempo uses solar power, or an AC adaptor to keep the camera capturing every element of the project.

Fixed Position

The photoSentinel Tempo is placed in a fixed position usually mounted high enough so that the camera is able to capture the construction site. Consider lenses with suitable angles to include the subject you're seeking to capture.

Aperture Priority

Set the camera to Aperture Priority mode to achieve smoother transitions throughout the time-lapse. Allow the camera to adjust the shutter speed according to the lighting level.

For more camera setting recommendations for long-term time-lapse with the photoSentinel Tempo, please see the Recommended Camera Settings and Sony Camera Operation articles on our Knowledge Base.

RAW Format

Capture images in RAW format to have greater flexibility during post-processing and to retain maximum image quality.

The A7R IV can accommodate large capacity SD cards. For long-term time-lapse, keep the SD card bay clear and instead utilise the SSD and/or upload capability of the photoSentinel Tempo.

Import the image sequence into time-lapse software or video editing software to create the final time-lapse video. Adjust settings such as frame rate, transitions, and color grading as needed.

Remember to plan your time-lapse project carefully, considering factors such as interval duration, project duration, and environmental conditions. With the Sony A7R IV's high-resolution sensor, you can capture stunning details in your long-term time-lapse sequences.
