Okay, the title of this post might be a little exaggerated, but we reckon is must be close because Nathan Dodson has posted a whopping eighteen behind-the-scenes (BTS) videos of how he made his popular time-lapse movie Philly is Ugly. Which is really nice for us here at photoSentinel, because we’re engineers more than photographers. These BTS videos let us get out on the field with the photographers using our equipment and better understand what they do.
What’s really great about this series of videos is that we get to learn along with Dodson. A portrait photographer by trade, this is the first time-lapse shoot Dodson has done. He doesn’t claim to be an expert on time-lapse and says created the videos to share what he picked up and encourage people to get out and give time-lapse a go. All of this means that there’s not much assumed knowledge (which other tech videos can be full of) and makes the videos really accessible.
The video series covers everything from location scouting to camera settings to post-production to recording the soundtrack. Dodson has conveniently grouped the whole lot of them together on one page on his website.
